The "Katagami Series" are handheld kaleidoscopes by artist Yasuko Nakazato. Katagami, the paper stencils traditionally used in the dyeing of fabric for kimono and other garments, were brought to Europe and America in the second half of the nineteenth century. Their beautiful designs and technical refinement were so impressive that they had a big influence on arts and crafts oversees. Yasuko Nakazato uses these traditional paper stencils and Washi paper under clear glass to create beautiful kaleidoscope bodies. Each one is a different piece of art and each has sides of textured clear glass. These scopes come with a modified 3-mirror system and have an oil filled object cell that produce detailed images in beautiful collors. These scopes measure 8-1/4"L x 3-1/4"W x 3/4"T and they are signed by the artist.
